Sometimes You have To Just Call 'em Like You See 'em

In the English language subset of the new millennium known as "webspeak" when a universal modifier to a noun or proper noun is needed to indicate the negative, a state of being dissatisfied, inefficient service or just generally bad, the word "suck" is employed, along with its plural "sucks" which indicates emphasis or action.

An illustration to the point just made, expressed conventionally might be, "The first sentence of this story is too long, too confusing, too stuck up and pretentious and a violation of a rule of writing that specifies that one ‘never’ opens a story with a single compound sentence paragraph."

A second illustration might be, "The first two paragraphs suck."

Offering for consideration that a company, a thing, a person, a service or a web site "sucks" is now sufficiently ingrained in popular culture that it is now not considered to be an outright vulgarity, but rather a mild crudity roughly on par with the three stooges showing up at the dinner party of someone you don’t like anyway.

With that explanation and disclaimer out of the way, we decided to try and find out just how prevalent this once insulting word is on the web. We’ve searched for a variety of other things on the web with pretty good results. We decided to search for the word "sucks." on YAHOO! The results were startling to say the least

Amex Sucks

It's pretty easy to make enemies when you are a rude, heartless money grubbing billion dollar credit card company. Having had a few brushes with American Express myself, I completely understand the frustration the militant card holders on this site feel. the links page leads off to many other, and often more vicious web pages on the same topic, which is Amex is rude, crude and socially unacceptable.

Yahoo! Sucks

This site, listed prominently on Yahoo! doesn’t like Yahoo!, takes Yahoo! to task and generally disses the search engine on which the site is listed. Apparently Yahoo! has angered more than just this guy, because following a link off his page, we discovered a gaggle of other "I hate Yahoo! sites" as well.

Intel Sucks

Here’s a guy so cheesed off at the giant chip maker that he still hasn’t removed his complaints about the x86 series of processors. Methinks someone needs a life.

People For The Ethical Treatment of Animals have a gripe against milk. Their web site is proselytes the vegetarian and non-milk drinking life-style. Included is some back peddling on their now infamous "Got Beer?" promotion
